Episode 0 welcome, Welcome, Welcome

Me singing Welcome, Welcome, Welcome

Ah! Excuse me, I didn't realize y'all were there. My name is Lake. Aka The Gamer Leaf. I'm new to some things: 2 main ones being gaming and if you're listening you've probably gathered, podcasting. I don't remember when it started but sometime within the past few years my lovely wife: (Lady Leaf: Destroyer of Gamer Leaf's hopes and dreams.) got into gaming. Her and most of our kids are really into it. I would love to be a geek, a gamer geek and be able to take an active part in their lives. So that's what I will do. In groups they go around the room stating what their struggles are. Here goes: People are constantly telling me I need to turn in my geek card. Jokes on them, I don't have one! But, with y'all's help I feel I can gain one. My name is Gamer Leaf: Gaining my geek card one battle/podcast at a time. I hope that we can have a lot of fun on this show. I've always wanted to be on radio. Thanks to a thing they call technology now it's finally possible. So? Where to start in gaining my geek hood? according to Wikapedia.com The word geek is a slang term originally used to describe eccentric or non-mainstream people; in current use, the word typically connotes an expert or enthusiast or a person obsessed with a hobby or intellectual pursuit...

Where to start? Well in terms of games, I was told that I need to get an account over at boardgamegeek.com I would urge y'all to do the same thing. It seems like a pretty good site for someone like me trying to build his geek cred in gaming. What makes it even better is there is an app for that. I was going through all of the games that my wife has accoumlated over the last few years in trying to come up with content to share with y'all. She has like 120+ games. WOW! luckily I had that # readily available because when I created my account they asked.

My life as a gamer? Well, probably not as intensive as y'all if you're a gamer. Possibly similar if you're wanting to get more into it like me. I'll be very clear with y'all, MY MEMORY STINKS! As a kid I vaguely remember really getting into the card game of War. In which everyone has a pile/deck of cards which they don't look at. At the same time you lay them down face up. Whomever has the highest # wins the card. If it be a tie, you both place 3 additional cards down face down with an additional one face up. Then whoever has the greatest # wins all the cards that are on the table. This was always my favorite part to see what cards the winner won. This game can go on for a long time or be over really quick. You call a winner once someone's cards are all gone. When I was a wee one, possibly inbetween 8 and 10 I hit the streets of downtown Salt Lake City Utah and sold Scout O rama tickets like they were going out of business. Reason? I earned myself a Nientendo Entertainment System. I had a few select games that I loved playing on this. Mario Brothers #1, I was pretty good at it. I discovered some secrets by my lonesome. Beating a castle and dying at the same time and also getting spitwads/fireballs while being little. I had this awesome turbo controller in which you just had to hold the button down. This came in really helpful during Mario #3, for those levels when you could either swim under the ships or fly over the whole level with a P wing. keep in mind, I didn't need to use this to win the game. I oft times ended up with some pretty bad blisters from playing so much. I could beat every level in Mario 3 except for the mini castle found in level 8. I always needed a cloud to get past that level. If any of y'all know how to beat that level shoot me an e-mail at lakeleafty@gmail.com or call google #. I actually beat Mario 3 while playing with my handcuffs cuffed behind my back. Probably my biggest achievement when it comes to gaming. A few of my other favorites were TMNT, Back2 The Future, and some Stock Exchange game. Some of my friends had Sega, I wasn't crazy about it. Also, make it known to the universe TETRIS is the greatest game ever. Don't get me started as it takes forever to get me away from it. My uncle had some really cool Atari games, some of which I have even found apps for on my phone . I will have to do an old skool episode. As a kid we'd always get together and play the classic games with aunts and uncles and cousins. Monopoly, uno, skip bo, phase 10. The 1st 2 we actually collected different versions of before my wife became an aqusitiononer of games. Will also have to do a episode on that. When I was 19-21 I served a mission for my church. During this time I had the pleasure of working with an old Checker pro who taught me how to look several moves ahead and not just at the move you are on. I digress.
This will be a weekly podcast in which I offer a review of at least 1 game based on someone whom is coming into gaming. We will launch every Tuesday at 3am est.
